A new qualitative ethnographic study explored parameters that had an effect on choices to pursue postsecondary education for a band of 50 African American adult males. While apparently Black color males are not wishing to obtain higher educative degrees in standard numbers, results revealed that one of the complicating issues may be a construct classified ouble Consciousness.?Double Alert cognitive state is an awareness of sub-conscious with a concurrent knowing of self in relationship to personal environment together with heritage and how who relates within 1 environment. Given destructive stereotypical influences involving Double Consciousness with regard to African Americans, this idea may present any roadblock to persistence for higher education. A cohort connected with 50 African Individuals men between the ages of 21 and 65 yrs old participated in this ethnographic review that employed qualitative study methods and research. The researcher sought to balance a single question:. Why do African American males not advance on to obtain a much higher educational degree perhaps a terminal degree.
